Rouge knocked on the door, desperately hoping she wouldi get an answer. After a few, excruciating moments, the door opened, showing a certain grey hedgehog's face.

"Rouge?" Silver said, confused.

"Is Blaze home?" Rouge asked, quickly. She was still worried.

"Well, yeah, but..." Silver started rubbing the back of his head.

"But?" Rouge asked impatiently.

Silver sighed. "She's locked herself in her room, and won't talk to me."

"How long has she been in there?"

"A few hours. I tried everything, but she won't come out."

Rouge scoffed, a little bit more at ease. "Of course not. For these matters, you need a woman's touch."

Rouge then pushed herself past Silver, and made her way inside, walking where she figured the bedrooms were. Silver tried to protest at first, but realized that this might work. "First door on the left!" He called after her.

When Rouge found the door, she suddenly found herself hesitant to actually do anything. What should she say? She hasn't really been in a situation like this before. She sighed, before gently knocking on the door. "Blaze?"

No response. Rouge knocked just a tiny bit louder this time. "Blaze? It's Rouge. Can we talk?"

The door slowly opened, to show a very tired looking Blaze. Her eyes were red and irritated. Has she been crying? Rouge never figured Blaze would cry. This could be worse than she thought.

"What do you want?" Blaze asked coldly. The tone of voice threw Rouge for a second.

"I wanted to make sure you were ok." Rouge told her, softly.

Blaze was about to close the door in her face, before Rouge quickly put her hand out to stop the door. "Look, Shadow's disappeared, and I need to talk to you."

Blaze's face softened just a little bit. Slowly, she let Rouge open the door the rest of the way, as she went back to her bed and sat on it.

Rouge then gently sat down next to her. She looked at Blaze, and noticed how she was looking straight at the floor, sorrow on her face.

After a few moments, Rouge broke the silence. "Blaze, what happened?"

Blaze sighed, and went quiet for a second. "How much do you know?" She asked.

"Not much. You two went out, and when I came back home, there were eggs on my floor, and Shadow wasn't there."

Blaze looked up at her. "I went back there with Shadow." She told Rouge. Rouge, surprised, raised an eyebrow.

Blaze quickly realized her mistake. "Not like that. He got hurt and he needed someone to help him."

Rouge got a very confused look on her face. "Really? He usually heals like nothing."

"I know. But he didn't this time. I spent the night taking care of him. When I woke up, he was hobbling around, making breakfast."

Rouge still couldn't figure it out. "But he doesn't get hungry."

"I think it was mostly for me. He made himself a plate, though."

Rouge was trying to organize the information in her head. It's what any good secret agent would do.  But she just couldn't make sense of it. She knew Shadow. She lived with Shadow. She's gone through thick and thin with Shadow. She's seen him go for weeks without eating. She's seen him shot, stabbed, burned, and beaten down in the most brutal ways, but he recovered entirely in about an hour tops. Hell, he fell from space to the Earth, and the worst he got was a case of amnesia. Did Blaze really have that much of an effect on Shadow?

While Rouge was thinking, Blaze also got lost in her thoughts. How much should she tell Rouge? The more she knows, the easier it'll be to find Shadow. However, there's some things that Shadow might want to keep private.

"He said he loved me." Blaze said, quietly. Rouge snapped out of her thoughts, and her eyes widened.

"What?"

"Shadow told me that he loved me. He wanted to know me better, to convince himself that he didn't. But it didn't work."

The two fell in silence. Rouge had to think very carefully about what she was going to say next.

"Do you love him?" Rouge asked, gently.

Blaze looked like she was fighting back tears. "I...I don't know. He's nice and heroic, even though he has no reason to be. But..."

"But...?"

Blaze sighed. "I...don't want to hurt him."

Rouge just stared at her for a few moments, waiting for her to continue.

"I mean, if we were together, what would happen if it didn't work out? He's constantly harassed by the public, and i'm not exactly the easiest person to handle. I'm definitely not the most stable, otherwise we wouldn't be here. There's just too much to risk for someone I might not love."

Rouge got a small, sad smile on her face. "Honey, do you really think you'd be this upset and worried about someone you didn't love?"

Blaze's eyes widened in realization. Rouge gave the stunned cat a quick hug, before getting off the bed, leaving the room, and closing the door behind her.

Blaze's mind raced with a million new thoughts. She needed to think about this.

-----------------------------

Shadow was at Golden Park, looking into the water below the bridge. He wasn't sure how smart it was to be there, but he desperately needed something to ease his mind.

But he couldn't help but think of the last time he was there. His conversation with Blaze, just talking under the stars. How Blaze dragged him out of there to go to that diner.

Shadow shook his head in sorrow. There seemed like a chance. Just a chance for some form of happiness. It almost seemed funny. This whole thing started with him not wanting a relationship. Now it's all he wants. He was a poor, weak fool because of it, but it was true.

Shadow looked around, thinking. Blaze hurt him. She had hurt him bad. Did she even care? Was she just faking wanting to spend time with him? What was he supposed to do now?

While he was thinking, Shadow scanned his surroundings, hoping nothing was around him that could set him off. The people seemed to be keeping their distance, which was good. When he saw the absolute last thing he needed.

The one thing he hated the most.

That stupid, little boy.

And he was walking straight towards him.

Yeah, i'm gonna end it right there.

Originally, the next chapter was just gonna be in this chapter, but I didn't want to make it super duper long, so how about a super crazy cliffhanger?

How will Shadow, in his fractured mindset, handle the kid? Will he destroy the little brat? And how will Blaze act after hearing Rouge's advice? I'm not even sure, and I write this stuff!

On another note, i'm thinking about a new Shadaze story that'll take me out of my comfort zone. Different backstories, roles, and feelings for certain characters. The only thing I can promise is that you'll still recognize the main characters. Shadow would be Shadow and Blaze would be Blaze. I can also promise that that story won't come out until I finish at least one of my current stories.

*cough*I might make a Halloween oneshot.*cough*

Until next time!
