Shadow was slightly frustrated, as Blaze has been dragging him throughout the city for what feels like forever.

He was frowning, as he saw the snickers by the civilians who saw him like this. However, they seemed to shut up really quickly when he gave them a glare.

Shadow looked around at the bright lights of the city, amazed by how ugly they could seem to him. Some people like these lights, thinking they're beautiful, but Shadow thinks it is really just a giant eyesore in the middle of nature.

He groaned. He couldn't even see the stars he loved so much anymore.

Suddenly, Blaze stopped in her tracks, and looked at some kind of diner. She got a smile on her face.

Shadow looked at the unimpressive building, as Blaze let go. "This is it." She told him, as he just raised an eyebrow.

He crossed his arms. "Doesn't look like much." He said, as his frown seemed to deepen.

Blaze looked over at him, a smile still on her face. "Don't worry. I"m sure you'll like it."

Blaze once again dragged Shadow, this time inside the diner. Shadow groaned a little at the bell that jingled when it was hit by the opening door. The woman behind the counter looked at Blaze for a second, getting a quick grin, before frowning at the sight of Shadow.

"Hi Beth." Blaze said, obviously friends with her.

"Uh, hi Blaze." She said, nervously as she could feel Shadow's gaze going right through her.

"Table for two." She said, making Shadow look at her in confusion.

"Uh, go ahead and, uh, sit where ever. The place is empty." Beth told them. Shadow nodded, and just walked over to a booth. Blaze was about to follow, when Beth stopped her.

"Blaze, do you know who that is?!" She whispered, fear in her eyes. Blaze frowned slightly.

"You mean Shadow?" She asked.

"Yes I mean Shadow!" She whispered again. "And keep your voice down! I don't want him to hear me."

Blaze seemed a bit annoyed. "Why are you so scared of Shadow?" She asked, her voice covered in frustration.

Beth's eyes widen a bit. "Have you seen him?!" She hissed. "He's dangerous! You do know he's tried to destroy the world before, right?"

Blaze nodded, remembering what little information she learned about Shadow in the past. However, she thinks he's more than made up for it.

"Yes, I do." She said flatly. "He's reformed though. He saved a family from a burning building last week."

Beth's ears perked up. "Really?" She asked, surprised.

Blaze smiled and nodded. "Yes. Now how about you come and take our order?"

Blaze went over to the booth Shadow was sitting at, to see him still looking annoyed, and still with his arms crossed. She sat across from him.

"What are we doing here?" He asked, his emotionless tone covering his voice.

"I figured we could get something to eat." She said, smiling.

"I'm not hungry." He said stubbornly.

Blaze just shrugged, as Beth came to the table, holding a plate of pancakes, that was covered in syrup and cut up fruit. Blaze got a smile.

"The usual." Beth said, a smile on her face. She then looked at Shadow, before taking out a pen and paper.

"And what would you like sir?" She asked, apparently more comfortable with the black hedgehog.

"I'm fine." He said, before turning to the window.

"Get him the coffee." Blaze told her, a smile on her face.

"THE coffee?" Beth asked.

"THE coffee." Blaze said, as Beth walked away to the kitchen. Shadow raised an eyebrow at her.

"Coffee?" he asked. She nodded.

"You'll love it." She told him, as Shadow just looked at her emotionlessly.

He looked out the window, and at the nearby skyscrapers. Shadow hated the city. Its noisy traffic, its obnoxiously bright lights, and the simple fact that people seemed to be even worse in a city than in a normal place.

He sighed, earning Blaze's attention.

"You don't like the city that much, huh?" She asked. He shook his head.

"I'm not too fond of it either." She admitted, taking a bite of her food.

"So why are we here then?" He asked, confused.

"I found this place a few years ago. Almost no one comes in here, so it's a nice and quiet little place I go to if I need to relax."

Shadow grinned a little. "You know, I have this hill on the outside of the city that I go to."

"Really?" Blaze said, a small smile on her face.

"It's the nicest place. It has a tree that's just big enough to give you shade no matter what time of the day it is, and the grass is-"

Shadow cut himself off, noticing that he was starting to sound like a child explaining a toy. Blaze was giggling slightly, as Shadow was blushing.

"It sounds like a nice hill." Blaze said sincerely, even though there were still a few giggles. Shadow rubbed the back of his head in embarassment. He was horrified that he could even be like that.

"Now, why don't you show this side of yourself more often?" Blaze asked, curious.

Shadow thought for a moment, still not quite sure.

"I guess you just bring something out of me." He said, a small smile on his face.

Blaze could feel her face heat up, as she tried to hide it by taking another bite of pancakes. Shadow tilted his head, a bit confused at the way Blaze was carrying herself all of a sudden.

His thoughts were interuptted when Beth returned, with some kind of drink.

"Here you go sir." She said with a smile, as she put it on the table in front of him.

She walked away, leaving Shadow to look at it in thought.

Blaze looked at him, as he seemed like he was trying to figure out the beverage.

"Try it." She said. "It's good."

Shadow looked at it closer. It had whipped cream at the top, and seemed to have cinniamon on it. He picked up the warm mug, and held it closer to him, giving it a sniff.

Blaze couldn't help but smile at this. It was adorable how suspicious he was acting about this cup of coffee.

Wait, did she just think he was adorable? Where did that come from?

Shadow, slowly, took a sip from the cup, and then lowered the cup. He smacked his lips, still trying to register the taste, before his eyes widened. He looked at the cup, and then went for another drink, this time fully.

He lowered the cup, and Blaze started to laugh. Shadow looked at her in surprise.

"What?" He asked, confused.

"You have a little something...." Blaze started to tap her face, while Shadow's eyes widened. He looked at his reflection in the window, to see he had a bunch of whipped cream on his face.

Blaze laughed as he rubbed it off of him as fast as possible. Shadow had a blush on his face, embarassed.

"Well, I think you liked the coffee a bit too much." Blaze said, her laughter subsiding. Shadow looked down.

Blaze was amazed. Shadow was actually acting...shy. Instead of being distant, he just seems embarassed.

He rubbed the back of his head, as the blush slowly disappeared from his face. He looked at the empty coffee mug.

"It was good." He admitted, still not making eye contact. Blaze smiled a little, continuing to eat her pancakes.

Shadow, however, was not happy. He was getting closer to this girl. He was getting to know more and more about Blaze, yet wasn't feeling any different then from before.

Shadow didn't want to be in love. He couldn't handle it. People didn't like him, and they treated him like crap because of it. He doesn't want to drag someone into that.

There was still hope though. She probably doesn't feel the same way. A rejection might get him back to normal.

Yes, that'll work.

"Blaze." Shadow said suddenly, raising his head up. Blaze stopped mid-bite, and looked at him.

"Yes Shadow?" She asked, not expecting Shadow to talk after the way he was acting.

"You know that hill I was talking about earlier?" He asked. She nodded her head.

Shadow's words got caught in his throat. He looked into Blaze's gold eyes, and suddenly felt extremely nervous.

He mentally yelled at himself for being so weak. It was just a woman! A woman that you shouldn't love! Just do it and get her to reject you!

"Would you like to come with me and see it?" He asked, his voice trying its hardest to stay level.

Blaze blinked at him, before getting a small blush on her face. She looked away for a second.

"S-sure." She said shyly, as she got a tiny smile on her face.

Shadow could feel his heart racing at a thousand miles per hour. This wasn't what was suppose to happen! She was suppose to say no, not agree to it!

Shadow felt conflicted. He was happy, and angry. Relieved and disappointed. He wanted to do it, but at the same time, hated the very thought.

One side won however.

Shadow smiled. He stood up from the booth, and held his arm out, inviting her.

Blaze's face turned a deeper shade of red, as she accepted the offer by standing up and wrapping her arm around his.

She couldn't explain why, but it felt natural to Blaze. She could get use to this.

Blaze turned around really quick as the two made their way out the door. "Goodbye Beth!" She called to her friend, who disappeared in the kitchen.

"Bye!" She heard her call back, apparently too busy to see them out.

The door jingled again as the two left. Shadow led Blaze down the sidewalk, towards the direction of his hill.

He contemplated using Chaos Control, but decided against it. He didn't know how Blaze would react to it, and besides, he wanted the feeling of their arms intertwined to last a bit longer.

The two walked down the sidewalks filled with people. Some seemed to react surprised at the sight of the hedgehog happy, others were too busy with their phones, or in a rare case, a newspaper.

Then he saw him.

Him.

That little boy.

Shadow glared at the boy, who was riding on his skateboard. He had a baseball cap on backwards.

Shadow rolled his eyes, annoyed by the fashion sense of kids, and their constant need to be "cool".

It seemed almost funny. Almost.

Shadow disliked a lot of things. He hates the faker, he hates the Doctor, and he hates society as a whole.

But he really, really, really, did not like that kid.

Which is why the choice he had to make was so hard.

Shadow stopped walking as he saw the boy try to skate across the road, only for him to lose his balance and fall on the street.

Shadow saw a taxi, speeding down the road, coming closer and closer to the boy on the ground.

Blaze noticed, as her eyes widened.

This event was seen differently by the two.

For Blaze, it was fast, and sudden.

For Shadow however, it was all slow. He could see the car approaching, he could see the headlights on it growing bigger and bigger.

He looked at the boy, fear plastered across his face. Here was the kid that would always throw an egg, or a can, or something at him, everytime Shadow saw him.

Which was a lot, considering Shadow really liked that park.

He thought about just letting the child get hit by the car. It would be the perfect bit of karma.

Instead, he chose to make it the perfect bit of irony.

He ran to the boy, and pushed him out of the way. Unfortunatly, Shadow reacted too slowly.

The taxi ran right into Shadow, making him fly over the vehicle.

He crashed onto the hard street, as he could hear the cries and yells of the civilians nearby. However, only one scream stood out.

Blaze's.

He saw the boy run away, as his head laid still on the road. He struggled to get up, but couldn't. He felt a sharp pain go through his leg.

He heard the footsteps of someone running towards him. He looked up to see Blaze, with an upset look on her face.

"Shadow!" She gasped, as she dropped down to him. She touched his shoulder, but quickly pulled back when he winced.

"We need to get you to a hospitial." She said, as she looked around. The crowd was murmuring loudly, as they looked at the scene that was taking place in front of them.

"No!" Shadow growled, slightly raising his body off the ground. "No hospital." He growled, his voice sounding almost as weak as he felt.

"I need to get home." He told her. "Please, take me home...." He asked.

Blaze looked unsure, but decided that Shadow should know what was best for him. She heisitated slightly, before grabbing his right arm. She placed it over her shoulders, before slowly getting up with him. Shadow winced, and grabbed his left leg.

The two started walking towards Shadow's home, fear encasing both of them, for different reasons.
Shadow's been injured! Oh no!

The halfway point in the mini series.

If anyone's been wondering about why I'm not releasing the next "Redeeming Shadows", it's because I'm trying really hard to get the feel of it right. It's going to be one of the last few chapters in the story, so I want it to really resignate.

So in the meantime, enjoy this!
